Driver checks are an essential part of hiring or vetting a new employee, but they’re far more than just a box ticking exercise. As far as fleet managers are concerned, performing the appropriate driver checks is in everyone’s best interests – from the legal interests of the company, to the interest of the general public, to the interest of the driver’s personal welfare. (Even all the most advanced vehicle safety technology on the market can’t compensate for an inexperienced driver without the proper credentials!)

HGV drivers are actually some of the most careful drivers you’ll find out on UK roads. To qualify as an HGV driver, candidates must undergo extensive additional training to help them accurately judge and handle the vehicle’s significant size and weight.
Although this means they’re typically responsible, careful drivers, they’re not immune to human error, and one unfortunate but fundamental fact of HGV driving is that even the rarest and most simple mistakes have a much greater potential to cause harm than those of any other drivers.

FTA has announced the 58 finalists in the running to win an accolade at the prestigious FTA Logistics Awards 2019, following a record number of entrants this year. The awards, now in their third year, celebrate the companies and individuals who have made a significant contribution to the logistics and supply industry and have become acknowledged as the ultimate celebration of one of the UK’s most important industry sectors.
We are excited to announce that our innovative STOPSAFE braking system has been shortlisted for the Most Innovative Product award.
The date is fast approaching for FTA’s 3rd Annual glittering awards. With full multimodal representation in the entries from road, rail, sea and air including operators, manufacturers, retail, logistics and supporting industries, it really is set to be the event of the year.
Steve Hurd tells us how excited he is about the nomination “ This is our second nomination for these awards, last year with BANKSMAN AUTOBRAKING and this year with STOPSAFE.
We’ve got to admit we were a little disappointed we didn’t win last year, however, we can’t win them all and we are hopeful that this will be our winning year. Being shortlisted again is very exciting and it’s fantastic that our new innovations are being recognised by the industry.
STOPSAFE will now be judged by the FTA’s boards which represents some of the country’s most influential logistic leaders, before the winner of each category will be announced at a celebratory reception and gala dinner at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge on Thursday 24 October 2019.
Table bookings are now open for the 2019 Logistics Awards Gala Dinner. To find out more, and book your place at the event, please visit
