Reversing alarms and auto braking system

Functioning in reverse gear, Banksman Auto Braking’s reversing sensors provide the driver with staged visual and audible warnings to help prevent a collision occurring - detecting any inanimate objects in the path of the vehicle.

If the operator of the vehicle operator chooses to ignore the warning signals in the outer and middle working zones, the brakes will automatically be applied when the impending danger enters the final zone.

The rear vision reversing sensors smartly recognise the speed of approach.

The system is probably the most reliable means of detecting a human being and, therefore, invaluable in the prevention of injury or fatality to either employees or third parties.

By detecting a human being with 100 per cent accuracy using its reversing proximity sensors, the system minimises false alarms.

Historically, other automatic braking systems have depended solely on the reverse light circuit to determine, whether the brakes are automatically applied or not.

How does it work?

Banksman Auto Braking includes both audible and visible reversing alarms, like Banksman Radar, but has the addition of a ‘Brakes Logic Box’ - a modified in cab warning panel and a driver override button.

If the driver has not applied the brakes prior to the final detection zone being reached, the system will apply the brakes automatically.

In order to prevent collisions and ensure safely, the rear vision reversing sensors smartly recognise the speed of approach. The greater the speed the earlier the brakes are applied.

If a person or car passes across the path of the vehicle as it reverses and causes an automatic brake application, the driver can check his mirrors or mobile CCTV system to confirm that the threat is no longer present and release the brakes by pressing the override button briefly and then continue to reverse.

If another hazard presents itself in the path of the reversing vehicle and the driver did not apply the brakes, the system would automatically apply the brakes once again.

The ‘Brakes Logic Box’ is the ‘brain’ of the Banksman Auto Braking system, controls all aspects of operation, logging all system information against a time line for later reference.

A driver override button is provided, which can be used in two ways.

If the button is pressed and held for two seconds this will also cancel an automatic brake application.

But in this case, it will prevent any further automatic application for this manoeuvre.

It can also be used to inhibit automatic brake application when entering reverse to give the driver total control and allow him to reverse with visual and audible warnings only.

The brakes are applied when the valve is activated by the radar system and the air pressure in this line is released.
