Banksman Radar is an intelligent, fully-programmable reversing radar detection system that has been developed for use on Refuse Collection and other waste management vehicles operating in busy urban environments. Banksman is probably the most versatile vehicle based radar system available today; not only is Banksman completely programmable, it also incorporates clever technology in the form of directional sensing and speed thresholding.
The purpose of Banksman is to monitor the area to the rear of the vehicle when reverse is selected; should a potential hazard encroach into the defined rear protection zone, the reversing radar will detect its presence, alert the operator audibly, forcing reference to the rear vision monitor and mirrors to assess the danger visually so that appropriate action can be taken. The unique design features behind Banksman Radar make it highly reliable and thus will only alert the operator when there is an impending danger such as third party vehicles and property, but more importantly, people who may have wandered into the blind hazard zone behind the vehicle.
The last thing an operator needs when operating with any reverse detection device is for the system to false alarm; too many false alarms result in the operator becoming complacent and ignoring the warning signals. Banksman provides a most reliable audible and visual reminder to the driver to look at the monitor and mirrors to identify hazards.
Banksman is unique as it will detect a human-being with 100% reliability; Directional Sensing Technology means the system will only react to a closing distance between the radar and an object, ie a perceived threat, thus minimising false alarms.
The results are astounding – since the official launch of Banksman Radar in June 2006 over 1200 refuse collection and recycling vehicles, operating in the UK, have their safety systems enhanced through the fitment of Banksman Radar.
