VT Live™ - Mobile Digital Video Recorder
To continue the debate, if we review the current trial of VT Live™ at Williton - the live recording system is fitted to a narrow 4x2 RCV operated by a lone driver/operator – Carl. It appears that this vehicle travels many miles collecting minimal tonnage and as such a lone driver makes economic sense.
But what happens when an incident occurs out in the field and Carl needs a witness? He doesn’t have a colleague to act as a witness and in an ‘our word against yours’ scenario, what would the end result be?
- Send the vehicle back out again at the end of the shift to pick up the bin that wasn’t presented this morning – or was it?
- Split costs 50:50 for not being able to prove that your vehicle didn’t drive on the grass?
- Or, at worst, costly litigation for accusation of damaging the wall or knocking the wing mirror off the classic BMW, for example?
In cases such as this, which are common, the cost of another man would outweigh the cost of the camera recording system. Additional staff is an ongoing cost, generally increasing with wage reviews, employment on-costs etc whereas the CCTV recording system has a reducing cost over time. The initial outlay can be written down over the term of a contract or vehicle life and subsequently be transferred to another contract or another vehicle at minimum cost.
What’s more, with VT Live™, the investigation would start immediately as Carl would alert the operation to the incident and the operation would review the footage well away from the heat of the argument. Any follow-up visit by a Supervisor would result in evidence being presented on the first visit not on a repeat visit.
