Mobile construction vehicle manufacturer Skanska is making it compulsory for all vehicles to be fitted with 360 all-round cameras to raise vehicle safety standards.
This new operating standard will be introduced in July, with all current plant fitted by the end of October.
360° all-round view cameras use 4 cameras installed on each side of the vehicle whilst software ‘stitches’ the feeds together into one clear display, giving the impression of a top-down view from above the vehicle.
Rob Lynch of Lynch Plant Hire said: “There has been a lot of injuries from people coming into contact with plant. Ourselves and the rest of the industry need to do something about it. This is not an issue to be macho about. This is an issue to take very, very seriously.”
Vehicle safety experts Vision Techniques have been approved as suppliers of the all-round vision camera systems using their award-winning ‘VT Overview’ system, which has been popular with customers such as Severn Trent, Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering and Marshalls.
