Always reverse large vehicles using reversing aids

Everyday we hear horror stories about serious, perhaps even fatal, accidents involving large vehicles.

As large vehicles become increasingly important to everyday life, there is an added responsibility for both the driver and vehicle owner.

With reduced visibility ranges, especially at the back of the vehicle, it is critically important for large vehicles have some sort of help in reversing.

Large vehicles can be a nightmare to reverse, unless you have some modern technology to help you.

Fortunately, most companies understand this simple idea and, therefore, have reversing aids, in various guises, fitted to their heavy-duty vehicles.

Reversing sensors / Proximity sensor

One of the most popular reversing aids is the proximity sensor, designed to give off a sound when it detects an object within close proximity of your vehicle.

Sensors calculate the time interval between the vehicle and the other object, whether that is another vehicle, a pedestrian, lamppost or fence.

This will prevent costly accidents. A reversing accident could mean insurance payouts, repair costs, vehicles out of commission, and extra money for rental vehicles.

Some reversing aids are flawed and do not give full value for money. Reversing sensors, conversely, can pick up signals at any time, whatever the weather. Given this, it seems obvious why fleet owners value them so highly.

Many have three stage audible warnings, which change pitch when object gets closer.
