The past twelve months have seen a huge amount of facts which make for grim reading. Even with nationwide growth in venture schemes like FORS and CLOCS the amount of accidents involving vulnerable road users has not been majorly affected.
In fact, this week the HSE released statistics showing a 100% increase in accidents within the municipal sector with the amount of fatalities doubling this year in comparison to 2016.
However, preventable fatalities are not the only problem; businesses and government-funded councils continue to be fined for negligence and failing to provide the correct basic standards in site and vehicle safety.
Recently, a well-known commercial company was fined £1.9 million for an accident that happened with a worker due to operator error.
A industry recognised transport firm was also fined £500,000 after their vehicle banksman operator was crushed between two lorries, killing the employee.
Fortunately incidents involving vehicles – either when on or off site – can easily be prevented.
Vision Techniques are the only provider of VT Banksman – the only reversing radar in the UK that will automatically apply the handbrake if a hazard – such as a person or a vehicle – gets too close to the rear of the vehicle – preventing an accident or even fatal incident.

Quarrying and mining is just one of a variety of sectors we serve here at Vision Techniques. As one of the UK’s most hazardous industries in which to work, safety is a particular priority for employers in this field. Many accidents that occur in these sorts of workplaces involve vehicles and vehicle collisions – this is a lot to do with the fact that there are numerous and often unpredictable factors that might impact a driver’s visibility. At Vision Techniques, we stock a range of products specifically designed to tackle this problem of driver visibility, improving safety for everyone on-site.
